I guess Canada finally made a world class product, besides maple candy. Too bad Boeing’s greed and stupidity made an enemy out of it.

Bombardier already made world-class products (business jets, water/snowcraft, light rail trains), this was more about winning a political battle.

light rail vehicles*

* provided they can actually meet delivery targets, for which they have yet to deliver on 3 or more Canadian rail projects.

I see, so Canada won’t buy Boeing stuff anymore, or are other industries in danger.

All the major Canadian airliners already fly Boeing and their regional services all use a mix of Bombardier and older jets.

We’re still not buying those super hornets tho.

Boeing petitioned to get a 300% tarriff to jack a $20M plane’s cost upto $80M, thus noncompetitive. So yeah, they cared a lot.

this is all the United States fault.

We gave them a choice, we stop the C-series but you guys keep Bieber for good.

That sucks, kinda against the spirit of free trade and competition. Isn’t this what we complain about other countries doing to us?

They’re Quebecois and have a very socialist corporate culture (I know this from several insiders over decades). The product may be good, but don’t let it get in the way of your 9-5 schedule or vacation time.

The US International Trade Commission found in favor of Bombardier to drop the tariff.

Pretty much!

Basically, Delta wanted a plane bigger than a regional jet, but smaller than a 737. Boeing petitioned the 737 anyway, to which Delta said “haha, no.”

Bombardier said “hey guys, look at this cool C-Series!” and in their desperation, sold the planes at below cost, potentially violating US “dumping” regulations.

Boeing - feeling salty - ratted Bombardier out to Congress and petitioned a 300% tariff, ensuring Bombardier would likely never sell a single C-Series in the US.

Boeing doesn’t have a C-Series aircraft in the skies and there won’t be one from Boeing for a very long time. If Boeing wants to enter the C-Series’ market in the future, it has to make sure the C-Series doesn’t succeed.

Bombardier - refusing defeat - decided to basically give the program to Airbus for enough ROI to make the program profitable. Bombardier now gets to make their money and sell planes in the US through Airbus’ US-based factory. Airbus can now play the long game and gain 100% control over the C-Series program in the future and getting the upper hand over Boeing.

TL;DR - Boeing wants to stop the C-Series because they are concerned about getting screwed over in the future...Now they’re screwed even more.

Not only that, but the whole Embraer deal is now a critical deal, greatly increasing embraers value now that boeing needs to fill a gap.

The plane seems to be doing pretty well. As long as Pratt can keep engines coming Bombardier should be ok. For work reasons I am happy to see it out flying. The test is coming though as we will be putting it to work in a big way.

And now boeing is in a rush to buy/partner with Embaer which greatly helps embraers value.
